History

Kwong Wun battled leukemia for seven years. Mr. and Mrs. Pau provided unwavering support throughout their son's fight against this lethal cancer. Unfortunately, the medications did not have the desired effect, and Kwong Wun gradually stopped responding to treatment. During his last months, Mr. and Mrs. Pau dedicated themselves to making Kwong Wun's life journey more meaningful. Following their son's passing, they believed that their experiences coping with the trauma could be valuable for other families facing similar struggles. This conviction led to the establishment of the Foundation in 1998 as a non-profit charitable organization. In 2005, the Foundation also became a full member of the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organizations (ICCCPO). In addition to Mr. and Mrs. Pau, who serve as founder board members, the board is now managed by a pediatrician, as well as individuals with backgrounds in business and law.

The distinctive emblem of the Pau Kwong Wun Charitable Foundation (PKW) was inspired by a delightful sketch of Kwong Wun drawn before his passing in April 1998. The smiling face in the sketch reflects the joy and optimism that Kwong Wun maintained, even as he battled leukemia during that time.
