Kwong Wun was suffering from leukemia for 7 years, Mr. and Mrs. Pau gave their unconditional support in their son’s battled with the lethal cancer. Miserably, medication did not have its desired effect and Kwong Wun gradually failed to respond to treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Pau ultimately devoted the most of the last months they had with Kwong Wun to make his life journey more copiously. After the bereavement, Mr. and Mrs. Pau believed that their experiences of going through and coping with the trauma could be useful to help other families stranded with similar struggles. This caused the formation of the Foundation in 1998 as a non-profit charitable organization. In 2005, the Foundation also became a full member of the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organization (ICCCPO). Now, apart from Mr. and Mrs. Pau as the founder board members, the board members are also managed by a pediatrician as well as people with business and legal background.
The distinctive emblem of Pau Kwong Wun Charitable Foundation (PKW) was adopted from a delightful sketch of Kwong Wun who drawn before he passed away in April 1998. The smiling face of the character shows the gaiety and optimism even though Kwong Wun was battling with leukemia during that time.
